Vietnam with Kids: the Best Family Resorts and How to Plan

Vietnam is an exceptional family destination — but not every resort is built for children. Here is how to find the right property and plan a trip that works for all ages.

Vietnam with children is one of the great family travel experiences. The country is safe, affordable, fascinatingly different from home, and — crucially — Vietnamese culture places children at the centre of family life. Locals will fuss over your kids, restaurants will accommodate, and resort staff genuinely enjoy having young guests around.

Choosing the Right Resort

Not all Vietnamese resorts are built for families. Before booking, confirm:

  • Kids' club: Supervised activities for children aged 4-12, typically running 9am–5pm and sometimes evening sessions.
  • Pool configuration: A shallow wading pool separate from the main pool matters enormously with toddlers.
  • Beach safety: Resorts on calm bays (west coast of Phu Quoc, non-monsoon Nha Trang) are safer than open-coast properties where currents and waves are unpredictable.
  • Interconnecting rooms or family suites: Essential for families who need adults and children in the same accommodation without sharing a bed.

Best Destinations for Families

Phu Quoc is the consensus pick: calm water on the west coast, dedicated children's facilities at most five-star properties, Vinpearl Safari (a genuine wildlife park), and Sun World Hon Thom (water park + cable car) for active days. Da Nang is runner-up — short flight times from most Asian hubs, My Khe Beach is gentle and shallow, and Ba Na Hills theme park is 30 minutes away. Nha Trang suits older children and teenagers: the Vinpearl amusement park, island boat tours, and water sports give active kids plenty to do.

Age Considerations

Under 3: Focus on pool resorts with lots of shade, easy mealtimes, and proximity to a decent hospital (Hanoi, HCMC, Da Nang, Nha Trang). Under 10: Beach resort with kids' club so parents get adult time. Teenagers: Mix activities — snorkelling, cooking classes, cycling, markets — with downtime. Bored teenagers make for difficult holidays.

Health Practicalities

Hepatitis A and typhoid vaccinations are recommended for all ages. Malaria prophylaxis is only needed for remote highland areas, not for the coastal resorts. Bring a good insect repellent (40%+ DEET) — mosquitoes at dusk are the main nuisance. Sun protection in Vietnam's tropical UV is non-negotiable.
