The Best Beach Resorts in Vietnam, Ranked
From Phu Quoc's coral-clear waters to the dramatic cliffs of Da Nang, Vietnam's coastline stretches 3,200 km. We break down which beach is right for your trip.
Vietnam's coastline is one of the longest in Southeast Asia — 3,260 kilometres of it, from the Gulf of Tonkin in the north to the Gulf of Thailand in the south. Not all of it is equal, and the right beach for you depends entirely on what you are looking for.
Phu Quoc — Best Overall
Consistently ranked among Asia's finest islands, Phu Quoc has what every other Vietnamese beach destination is still working toward: genuinely clear water, powdery white sand, and a resort infrastructure sophisticated enough to satisfy even seasoned Maldives travellers. The north and west coasts have the best beaches (Sao, Dai, Ganh Dau); the south is being developed rapidly. Best for: couples, luxury seekers, snorkelling.
Da Nang / Non Nuoc — Best City Beach
My Khe Beach stretches 30 km and sits 10 minutes from Da Nang's international airport and 30 minutes from Hoi An. The resort strip between the airport and the Marble Mountains — known as Non Nuoc — is home to some of Vietnam's most impressive five-star properties. The water is clean, the beach is wide, and everything is convenient. Best for: families, first-time Vietnam visitors, city-beach combinations.
Nha Trang — Best for Activities
If you want to do things rather than just lie still, Nha Trang is your beach. Island hopping, diving, snorkelling, windsurfing, kite surfing, water parks — the activity infrastructure here is unmatched on the Vietnamese coast. The trade-off is crowds and a brash city atmosphere that some find tiring after a few days. Best for: solo travellers, active couples, families with teenagers.
Mui Ne — Best for Wind Sports
Mui Ne is Vietnam's kite surfing capital, and has been for 20 years. The reliable northeast trade winds arrive in October and blow until April — conditions that attract professionals from around the world. The beach itself is narrow and not Vietnam's prettiest, but the red and white sand dunes nearby are extraordinary. Best for: kite surfers, windsurfers, adventurous travellers.
Quy Nhon — Best Undiscovered
The sleeper on this list. Binh Dinh's coast has clear water, empty beaches, Cham temple ruins in the hills behind, and a growing cluster of well-designed boutique resorts. International visitor numbers remain a fraction of Da Nang's, which is exactly the point. Best for: travellers who have done the main circuit and want something different.
Our verdict: Fly into Da Nang, spend 3 nights at a beach resort in Non Nuoc or Hoi An, then fly to Phu Quoc for 4 nights. You get the best of both worlds in a week.
